What It Looks Like to Work With Us: Building a Lasting Working Relationship

I’m glad you’ve chosen to learn more about working with Wise Resource Development. I founded WISE ten years ago out of the belief that I could make a greater impact as a consultant. To explain, let me take you back 30 years to the Westminster Manor apartments in Arvada, Colorado…

Growing up, two goals shaped my life: I wanted to do better than where I came from, and I wanted my experiences to matter. My single mom was very savvy in managing our family’s needs on less than $600 a month provided by welfare, along with about $150 a month in food stamps. Only a small portion of that income went toward our Section 8-subsidized housing.

At 12, I started babysitting neighbor kids and selling stationery door-to-door. That is also when I started paying for my own clothes, extracurricular activities and other needs, like shampoo and toothpaste. I resented my circumstances and felt that the lack of money should never hold me back from achieving success. I was tenacious in my efforts to succeed as one of the first in my family to graduate from a major university and go on to earn a master’s degree.

I chose a career in nonprofits intentionally and with a passion to serve. I have personal interests in the missions we serve, including access to education, poverty alleviation, workforce development, community re-entry, and mental health programs. When you hire Wise Resource Development, you are not just hiring someone with skills and experience, you are hiring someone with passion.

Ten years ago, when I was sitting in yet another executive team meeting talking about how to turn the tide on major organizational challenges, I realized something important: I didn’t get into nonprofit work to sit in meetings all day spinning my wheels. I did it to feel connected to important social change.

I want to wake up every day feeling like I contribute to changing the lives of others! At Wise Resource Development, we get to do just that with over 40 clients every day. We pride ourselves on being that essential value add to our clients through strategic partnership. Whether you hire us for grant writing, campaign planning, event strategy, or recruitment, we bring a collective 75 years of experience to supplement your team. We used to help run nonprofits, both large and small, and we bring that expertise and those resources to your organization.

What does that look like in practice?

We think outside of our box

When you hire us, you are getting a strategic partner. We are committed to being flexible in meeting your needs and helping your organization thrive. That may mean you hire us for grant writing, but we also see ways that we can support you with program design, financial analysis or other strategies to maximize your fundraising potential. Your organization and your needs are unique; therefore, the services we provide should be equally accommodating.

We don’t do transactional relationships

We are not a fit for all nonprofits, and we understand that. We believe we are best aligned with nonprofits that value us as their partner and not as a vendor. Most of our clients have been with us for years because we adapt to meet their most pressing needs. Our hope is that you will call us when you have a pain point; if we can’t help you directly, we will refer you to someone who can.

We protect your resources

We work hard to stay within your budget. We’ve been in your shoes and know what it’s like to steward your resources for the benefit of your mission. We know what it feels like to be overworked and under resourced. We will help you strategically maximize your investment. And you pay only for the time we spend on your projects, allowing you to receive highly skilled support for a fraction of what you would spend on a full-time staff member.

We promise quality

Expect an excellent work product from us. We are committed to being the best at what we do.
